The Lord's Supper

Grace Communion Peterborough

believes in regularly partaking of the Lord’s Supper / Communion, in accordance with Jesus’ instructions (1 Cor 11:26) and does so as an annual commemoration of the Last Supper in the spring and also as an ongoing witness to the death and resurrection of our Lord and Saviour, throughout the year (bi-monthly).
The Lord’s Supper also announces the fact that Jesus will return (1 Cor 11:26).

Revised Common Lectionary

In line with other GCI congregations around the world,
Grace Communion Peterborough now follows the Revised Common Lectionary (RCL - see right) most weeks.

A lectionary, of course, is simply a list of scriptures to follow over the course of a church year.
The RCL uses a three-year cycle (Years A, B, and C).

We are currently in year C of the Revised Common Lectionary (2024-25).

What we teach
As followers of Jesus Christ, we proclaim the gospel—the good news of what Christ has done for all humanity.

When we realise that we are sinners saved only by God’s mercy, we become more patient with other sinners. When we realise that we have been forgiven an enormous debt, we become more forgiving.

The better we understand and appreciate the grace shown us, the more gracious we become toward others. We see the need for forgiveness in ourselves and in others.
What we sing
At Grace Communion Peterborough, we sing a variety of songs, including well known traditional hymns and modern worship songs.
We use Mission Praise as our main reference, but include a number of songs not found in that collection.

Our worship leaders are always sourcing potential new songs to add to our play list and we do plan to include live music in the future.
Songbooks (e.g. Mission Praise) are available but lyrics are also often displayed by projector, using the Microsoft PowerPoint application, to enhance the worship experience.

Belong

The gospel declares that because of Jesus Christ, all people are loved, forgiven and accepted by God—all belong (Eph. 1:4-6). Sadly, many don’t experience God’s unconditional love and acceptance and the result is sin and the pain it brings. But the Holy Spirit is actively at work helping people come to know that they belong.

Believe

As people understand the gospel and experience the truth that God, through Jesus, by the Spirit, has included them in his love and life, they begin to see God and themselves in a new light—they begin to believe.
The Spirit leads disciple-making churches to nurture believers.

Become

As believers journey with Jesus, the Spirit transforms them into who they are (and are becoming) in Christ.

Growing into that reality includes engaging as workers in ministry with Jesus, with some workers becoming disciple-making leaders.
